about

I loved the Cheshire Plane's earlier releases but, for me, this one beats them all. A little less of their signature guitar and more production/construction value spotlights that Martin Butterworth is a great songwriter. The band are tighter yet still have the bounce of spontaneity. This Year - Next Year seems to place itself right on the cusp; back to the most creative time of the 1960s - the birth of psychedelic pop-rock. It's a world of catchy but 'out there' stuff. The album is definitely danceable in a 1967 San Francisco way and yet the lyrics are deceptively deep. It's all here: greed, fraud, aliens, hope and romance. The title track is a top tip, also Greed, Captain or the Crew, Gentle and Relentless and my favourite, Painting the Roses Red. But, really, any of these tracks will catch your ears!

For the geeks amongst us, I have two Ibanez guitars - a GAX30TR and an AM73 - a very old Casio CTX530 keyboard, a second-hand Boss BR600, and, most importantly, a very patient and understanding wife.

about

Cheshire Plane UK

Hi!
In the 70's I was a roadie/soundguy for legendary UK rock band Strife.
We were recording "A Better Man Than I" at Wally Heiders in SF when we met Grace Slick and Papa John Creach. They were putting the finishing touches to her "Manhole" album. I knew then that when I got my own music together, I'd have to tip the hat to my heroes - hence "Cheshire Plane". Have fun! :) ... more
